Nick Vujicic - A Lesson In Courage & Perseverance!
No Limbs - No Worries! Meet Nick Vujicic, pronounced 'Vooy-cheech'. Born on 4 December 1982 in Melbourn, Australia. A beautiful baby boy with intellect but missing many of the body parts we take for granted. Imagine beginning life with no arms, legs, or feet (actually he has one foot attached to the trunk of his body.) and ending up a world famous preacher and inspirational speaker!
His birth defect was caused by a rare disorder "Tetra-amelia syndrome" which came as a complete surprise to both his parents and doctor.
His Life Challenges
Nick became one of the first disabled students integrated into a mainstream school in Australia once the laws were changed that originally would have kept him from attending a regular school due to his physical disability even though he was not impaired mentally.
As you can well imagine, he encountered lots of cruelty from other children at school. Children can be very cruel and need to have empathy taught to them at a young age when they encounter someone with a disability of any sort. At age 8, Nick tried to drown himself, but did not go through with it out of love for his parents. It's been said that God never gives us more than we can handle and the story of how he overcame so much would seem to be proof of that.
It's a good thing that God made sure to provide Nick with a loving family who chose to raise him with encouragement and love - helping him to strive for more in life and not to limit himself.
Basic things that most of us would take for granted, were major accomplishments that Nick Vujicic mastered early in life:
- learned to write using the two toes on his left foot.
- learned to use a computer and type,
- throw tennis balls,
- play drum pedals,
- get himself a glass of water,
- comb his hair,
- brush his teeth,
- answer the phone and shave,
- learned to swim and surf (I can't do that and I have all of my limbs)

No More Excuses For The Rest Of Us
The story of Nick Vujicic and the challenges he has had to overcome from birth is so impressive it had me in tears when I first read about it. I think I am a strong person who generally tries to look for a solution if a problem is encountered, but frankly, can't imagine being as strong as Nick. None of us born with all our body parts have any excuse for not achieving. I have given permission for friends to give me a swift kick if they ever hear me make excuses for not following through. When I hear someone begin to embark on a "pity party," I tell them about this amazing man who has given us an invaluable lesson about a life lived with no limits. Nick Vujicic defines courage and perseverance!

Oh wow this touched the most intimate part of my very heart and soul. This is the ultimate proof of the strength of the human spirit and indeed is a lesson in courage and perseverance. What an extraordinary human being! Our struggles seem so meaningless and petty after reading his story. I am so grateful to you for bringing his story to me in addition to the link you posted. I am so grateful that he has graced this world with his presence. I understand how you can go on and on. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to adequately describe how I feel.
Thanks so much for a very deep and inspiring article.
